An Emirati man, who allegedly forced himself on his housemaid after dragging her by force into a tent in the backyard of his villa, has been sentenced to two years in jail.
The Court of First Instance found the 26-year-old guilty of a rape charge. He allegedly threatened the Filipina maid that he would physically assault and kill her. He twisted her arms and then raped her. The incident, as told by the maid, 33, happened on July 28 last year.
She claimed her sponsor dragged her from the backyard by force into a tent while twisting her arm. He threatened to beat her up and kill her when she tried to scream and get away from him.
She claimed in the investigation that he raped her and then threatened to assault and kill her if she did not stop crying.
She contacted her country's consulate as soon as her employer left the villa with his wife. She was instructed to leave the house, and later she filed a complaint at Al Qusais police station.
The victim's co-worker, also Filipina, confirmed to having seen the sponsor dragging the other maid into the tent while the latter looked "stupefied".
She later saw the maid crying hysterically in the tent and learnt from her that the man had sex with her against her will. She learnt from her that she was scared to inform the housewife. The witness later cleaned up the tent.
A police lieutenant said the maid reported the incident to the police station around 2.30pm. He went to the tent and saw it was being used as a storage room and that it was cleaned up after the incident
The ruling may be appealed.
